Schalke are back in the VELTINS-Arena for their first home match of 2025.
In their first meeting this season, Nürnberg with Miroslav Klose in charge defeated Schalke 3-1.
Before the match started, the Schalke Ultra's in the Nordkurve had a nice tifo to give a moment of silence to all the Schalke and Nürnberg supporters that had past away last year, a great show between these two clubs that celebrate the club friendship these two clubs have.
As the match kicks off it is Schalke that push forward and already look to have regain the form they had shown in December.
In the 6th minute Bulut plays a great pass to Sylla into the penalty area but the touch on the ball is heavy and the ball is recovered by Nürnberg.
Schalke are quick to recover the ball and in the 7th minute Schalke get the free kick from just half way from the half line, and Tobias Mohr kicks the ball into the six yard box and Schalke captain Karaman makes the run in and is able to connect with the ball and put it into the back of the net.
SCHALKE 1 - NÜRNBERG 0
In the 11th minute Nürnberg get a chance at goal and Tzimas takes his shot and Heekeren is able to gets the ball.
Schalke continue their attack and in the 15th minute from a great run down the left side ( Donkor is in for the injured Murkin) Donkor a plays a fabulous through ball to Sylla and from a tight angle, Sylla is able to but the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Schalke make it 2-0 and Sylla goes back into a tie for the 2.Bundesliga goal scoring lead.
SCHALKE 2 - NÜRNBERG 0
Nürnberg waste no time and from the kick off bring the ball back down into the Schalke box and Nürnberg attacker Castrop takes his chance at goal but the shot is blocked and the ball goes up in the air and Castrop falls down on to the ground, with the Schalke defenders waiting for the ball to drop it is Castrop from a sitting position as he was trying to get back up, is able to get his foot to the ball and kicks it over to Nürnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas, and he is able to head the ball into the back of a open net and surprise everyone with a goal.
With under 20 minutes this game as already seen 3 goals!
SCHALKE 2- NÜRNBERG 1
Schalke go back on the attack and its another attempt at goal for the Royal Blues and in the 22nd minute, it is Seguin that creates space and unleashes his shot from 19 yards out and his shot goes off the post on the right side.
In the 35th minute Karaman gets the ball in the penalty area and his shot is saved by the keeper.
Nürnberg in the 43rd minute get another chance at goal and Justvan takes his chance from a good shot that sends Schalke keeper Heekeren flying through the air in full stretch to make the great save.
As we head toward halftime in the 45th minute it is Mohr again with a great cross into the five yard box, and it is Sylla again that is able to get his head onto the ball and heads it down into the back of the net.
SCHALKE 3 - NÜRNBERG 1
Moussa Sylla now takes the 2.Bundesliga goal scoring lead with his 13th goal of the season.
Schalke also are the only team from all three German leagues to have 2 players in double digit goals scored so far this season. Sylla with now 13 goals and Karaman with 11 goals.
HALFTIME:
SCHALKE 3 - NÜRNBERG 1
From the restart Nuremberg work to get back into the game which so far has been a fantastic match with lots of youth talent on both sides in great display.
Nürnberg continue to try and build up play, but Schalke defense is there with what feels like 19 year old Taylan Bulut is all over the pitch.
Another attack and Nürnberg brings it forward and Tzimas in the penalty area and Schallenberg rushs in the last moment and blocks the shot.
Schalke again in the 66th minute with Donkor breaks through and shows his talent carrying the ball from the midfield in the 66th minute, he then brings the ball into the box and passes it off to a waiting Karaman, and his shot goes off the Nürnberg defender in the box, as Karaman calls for a hand ball in the box, put reveiw shows his hands are in a natural position and no penalty awarded.
With the full time whistle blows it is Schalke that flip the score and they win with the same scoreline from matchday 2 with a 3-1 home victory and Schalke's first win of 2025.

Schalke are now undefeated for 5 matches in a row, and continue to work today's a top of table push.
Schalke hold onto 13th spot in the table now 8 points away from the promotion playoff spot held by next Saturday's opponent Magdeburg.
Schalke are also now 7 points away from relegation zone.
