SCHALKE MATCHDAY 32: vs PADERBORN

Schalke welcome Paderborn to the VELTINS-Arena.

In their first meeting this year, Schalke displayed incredible inspiration as they defeated the then leaders of the league in Paderborn 4-2.

Schalke peppered Paderborn with 25 shots on goal in that match (the most they produced so far this year).

Two players are celebrating their 100th appearance for their respective clubs, Kaminski with Schalke and Obermair with Paderborn.

Before the match begins, the Schalke Ultras and the Nordkurve have produced yet another spectacular Tifo.

A two-teir display that sees the Nordkurve displayed in blue and white and then switch to the great display seen in the attached photo above.

The match begins, and in the 3rd minute Schallenberg can't control the ball and it goes out for a corner. The Paderborn corner kick results in Obermair receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty box and his shot from there goes over the crossbar.

In the 18th minute Paderborn get a quick attack as the two players Anah and Michel bring the ball forward, Michel shot is blocked by Kalas and that rebound goes to Mehiem and his shot is blocked by a Schalke player.

Schalke is on the attack and Donkor runs the ball down the left side and sends in a low cross across the box, Sylla just can't get there in time and he just misses the ball, a for sure goal if Sylla was able to be a few inches ahead.

After a great performance last week, Heekeren again steps up and in the 36th minute makes a great save on Bilbija shot, the rebound goes to Michel and his shot is block by Schallenberg who puts himself in front of the ball.

Then one minute later it is Bibija again and Heekeren makes another great save.

In the 41st minute it is Bilbija again and again Heekeren denied his chance, as the ball goes back out to the Paderborn player, Heekeren is waving and shouting directions to cover the players to the left of his box, as Heekeren gets back into position the ball is crossed by Zehnter and Heekeren clears that away, but unfortunately his clearance lands at the feet of Obermair and he is quick to put it in the back of the net.

This was the player Heekeren was pointing to to get his defensive team to cover.

Schalke get one last chance before the break as Donkor takes his shot at Riemann who knocks the ball away for a corner, but that results in nothing.

HALF-TIME

SCHALKE 0 - PADERBORN 1

The 2nd half is underway and Paderborn waste no time as in the 48th minute as Ansah finds Mehlem and he is able to put the ball past Heekeren.

SCHALKE 0 - PADERBORN 2

Schalke are clearly getting frustrated as Seguin will be shown his seventh yellow card as he and Mehiem get involved, Mehiem brings down Seguin with a tackle and Seguin does not like it and gets up and gets into the face of Mehiem and then pushes Mehiem down with two hands on his chest.

Schalke and Ron Schallenberg see a red card in the 70th minute as Schallenberg was the last man back and tackled Michel at the edge of the penalty box, the ref showed red right away, but after a VAR check it shows that Schallenberg plays the ball and the red card is rescinded.

Heekeren again is at it and in the 79th minute he is able to deny Zehnter and knock the ball away for a corner.

Schalke are still looking for a goal and in the 87th minute Mohr delivers the set-piece, Paderborn are unable to clear and Kalas gets a chance from outside the box but Riemann makes the save.

So far one the the biggest cheers of the night by the Schalke supporters comes from a Paderborn substitution, as Ansah makes way for former Schalke striker Felix Platte in the 89th minute.

The final whistle goes and Schalke lose again.

FULL TIME

SCHALKE 0 - PADERBORN 2

If not for Heekeren this could have been another ugly loss for Schalke

As this result is great for Paderborn who jump up into 3rd spot in the table.

The other match today saw Munster defeat Magdeburg ( Paderborn leap frogged Magdeburg for 3rd place)

This result also now puts Munster 6 points away from Schalke, as Munster sits in the relegation playoff spot, and could potentially catch Schalke as Munster with their 5-0 win today have a better goal differences than Schalke.

Schalke could be in some trouble as they have two tough matches left and have been struggling defensively for a few matches now.

Schalke have Dusseldorf next and the final match against Elversberg.
