MATCHDAY 17: ELVERSBERG vs. SCHALKE

Actualizado: hace 4 días

Schalke are away to league leaders Elversberg in MD17 the final weekend of games before the winter break.

This is for Schalke another game where they take on the league leaders as was the previous two matches. (Dusseldorf went top of the table last week when they scored, but Schalke brought them back down with the 1-1 draw)

Schalke again brought a loud section of traveling fans with them this week and the Nordkurve banner was very prominent all match long.

As the whistles blows to start the match it is like the other previous matches Schalke are on the attack and Murkin in the 4th min already has a go but the ball goes over the crossbar.

Elversberg respond with their own chance in the 6th minute and Damar tries for a chip shot to beat Heekeren but Heekeren sees it and knocks the ball away.

With Schalke's new found attacking pressure, it is the captain again who opens the scoring. In the 11th minute, Karaman receives the pass and just goes through the two defenders and controls the ball into the box and fires the ball top corner for his 10th goal of the campaign so far!

As the match continues Elversberg is starting to build up play and in the 25th minute, Elversberg equalize.

On a shot that Heekeren would love to have back, a simple shot from the right side of the box and Carlo Sickinger puts it right at Heekeren who puts his two hands up to deflect the ball perhaps over the crossbar, but the ball pretty much hits Heekeren's gloves and simple just now spins behind him into the net.

A big mistake on such a easy save for Heekeren as the hosts are back even.

HALF TIME:

A evenly played match so far as both sides had attempts at goal but most went over the crossbar.

In the 55th minute after all the chances Sylla had last week at goal and only found the back of the net once, tonight Sylla after a few early sniffs gets a great pass from Murkin and this time makes no mistake he jumps and heads the ball into the back of the net with authority.

Schalke re-take the lead.

ELVERSBERG 1 - SCHALKE 2

With Sylla getting his 10th goal of the season, it looks to have really deflated Elversberg, and Schalke will pounce once again,

After Petkov makes a misplaced pass, Karaman is quick to respond and with time by holding the ball in the box makes one move forward and crosses over to Schallenberg who makes no mistake this week, and heads home another Schalke goal.

ELVERSBERG 1 - SCHALKE 3

The away supporters are loving this, Schalke again taking the match to the league leaders.

As Schalke continues to attack it will be Moussa Sylla again in the 75th minute, who this time uses his feet and bangs home a great shot from the right side of the box to grab his team leading, and as of right now, sharing the 2.Bundesliga top goal scorer lesd with 11 goals scored.

ELVERSBERG 1 - SCHALKE 4

Schalke will just see out the rest of this match as the final whistle goes for the end of the 2024 year and Schalke take all 3 points to now get to 8 points away from the top of the table. ( As of Friday the top 4 teams are all on 28 points.)

A impressive form in Schalke's last three matches were they were dominant.

As we now take a break in the first half of the season and return on January 18th 2025.

Schalke have pulled themselves out of the relegation zone and are now looking like threats to the rest of the league.

A excellent 2025 hopefully lies ahead.
